I didn't intend them as analogues to any RL candidates (although clearly the maker of the Morgoth/Sauron image did), but I can certainly see that interpretation.

I must maintain that Gandalf is way cooler than Obama though. Not that I hate Obama, but I mean, it's Gandalf we're talking about..

But can we, in good conscience, keep Gandalf just to lead one nation? Gandalf is Maia and can/should lead the world into a new era of peace and harmony...well, at least it's a good idea :-)
