More new Hobbit film related images
Evidently there's some kind of children's workbook out which has some quite lovely images within. The saints of the interweb have seen to it that these are made available to us all.
Images include a character we have never seen (Thranduil) and a character we have seen but not really in this context before (Saruman).
Thranduil is not a favorite character of mine. In fact, it must be respectfully stated that I quite dislike him (it's difficult to be a Dwarf fan and like Thranduil). But that character design is great. He looks like you wouldn't want to cross him in a dark alley. Even his crown, which could easily be ridiculous-looking, only adds something to it. It's almost antler-like. Reminds me of some figure of myth I vaguely remember but can't place (I'm sure someone here knows, help me out...dude with the antlers...). Also I like his color scheme; I thoroughly approve of grey/silver with splashes of bloody colors like crimson or russet.
Not sure I like the massive fricking bling on his hand, but Thranduil seems to me like the type who would have some completely impractical bling anyway, so.
Saruman! =D =D (oh, and Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel). I wish that picture were a bit clearer. Ah well. I'm quite amused by it. He rather looks like he doesn't want to be there at all and is trying to restrain himself from bolting from the room or lobbing something at someone.
SARUMAN: I don't think I'm supposed to be here right now.
GALADRIEL: Nor am I, but you don't hear me complaining about it.

But this image that the Cernunnos wiki article includes makes me quite like your suggestion. Dude totally looks like he's got a bong there.

And maybe that's appropriate. I don't follow elves, so someone who knows something can enlighten me, but I hear Thranduil is not of the same type of elf as the people he rules over? If this is true, I suppose I can see something along the lines of "I'll wear this rustic crown for the people to show them I can relate to their backwater ways".

True that he doesn't look traditionally sylvan. It strikes me that I didn't have that thought because I instinctively associated his look with something a bit like this except a bit colder/further along toward winter.

Yes, this. A cursory investigation into Thranduil says that he lived in Doriath (whose king essentially perished for love of particular bling) during the First Age, but I don't understand all the Elven lineages and cultures enough to fully appreciate the implications of that.
