And now for something totally unrelated to the subject line.

Have an amusing SGA clip that references the Return of the King film.  (Judging by the reaction around the conference table, these people are all way more into the Lord of the Rings films than a random selection of the general public.  They're all 'Ohh Lord of the Rings.  Dayum.  Hell yeah.')

Also, I have a plan of action:
I am going to steal Bilbo Baggins' coat, take it to the tailor's to give it a nice fitted cut, and then rock that $h+t.  Seriously.  That coat looks like something I would make if I knew how to make coats and could make my ideal coat.

You make a good point that there are probably some very savvy people to be found in a costume department.
However, I could not excuse paying anything for a frivolous* coat right now, considering every dollar I spend is part of student debt.

*And sadly it would be frivolous, considering I already have not one but two perfectly serviceable and attractive coats (neither quite so interesting as Bilbo's, though one comes close).

The Hobbit will be popular for many years. This isn't something that you must have immediately, so it might be a future goal or gift for yourself. Certainly it might be worth discussing with someone who is into costumery. Who knows? They might be intrigued enough to want to make one as a project and might be willing to make it in your measurements.

When I went to college the girls living across the hall from me were Home-Ec majors and were all going into fabric and clothing design. They had to make things year-round and were always busy sewing and designing.

Anyway, if you really want it, you'll figure out a way to do it for the cheap :-) If I was at all close to you, I'd talk it over with you and maybe do it for you. But...we're just a bit apart from each other :-( Let me know if you want guidance on the fabric, though. The LOTR Costume group probably could give me guidance for that.

I wouldn't necessarily want it to be recognized as "hey, that's the coat Bilbo Baggins wears" anyway so Hobbit popularity is not at issue, I just think it's cool. =D

Such an item would not actually be on my list of priorities (if I had ~$100 fall into my lap that I couldn't spend on paying off debt, I'd put it toward a tattoo or a tablet or a tolerable chair or one of a dozen other things..) If in the future I ever did such a project though, you'll be the first to know.

I'm certainly not the person to say 'no tattoo' having two of my own and wanting two more. I'll just hope that at some point in time that extra $100 does indeed fall into your lap just so that you have some fun choices :-)

If I ever have a sizeable chunk of spending money, fun will surely ensue. I have three tattoos in mind that I want, and none yet. I also would like to get the finger webbings of my non-dominant hand pierced because I'm weird. =D

Oh that would be kewl. I've developed metal allergies on my hands over the past few years and would never tolerate that, but I really like the idea!

It's a pain in more than just the literal sense. I have a huge assortment of spectacular rings that I can't wear at all. Even my 18K gold band can only be worn occasionally. I used to have every finger covered. As a jeweler, it really sucks and I'm just hoping that my sensitivity won't preclude me from continuing to make my metal and enamel pieces when I can return to my artwork.
