Production Blog #8
My not-very-intelligent commentary follows. Folks avoiding the videoblogs for spoilers will also want to avoid the below.
– I appear to have a crush on flim!Ori. Which coincides quite nicely with the fact that I seem to have developed a crush on book!Ori during the course of writing about Khazad-Dûm recently.
– Ian McKellan and Cate Blanchett were IMHO two of the best actors in the LotR trilogy, and I’m quite liking that they appear to have given Gandalf and Galadriel some kind of significant interaction for the upcoming film.
– I maybe sort of freaked out unprecedentedly at the clips of the guy who plays Radagast and of Radagast’s house: ‘OMG HE’S SO CUTE EEEE RHOSGOBEL OMG FLAIL AAAGH I LOVE HIS HOUSE IT’S SO CUTE SQUEEE.’
– ^ Me and Istari, sheesh. At this rate I’ll end up asphyxiating if one of the forthcoming blogs shows a clip of Saruman.
– I have no way of stating this fact without coming off as an ass to Legolas fans, but, well, there came a point where I almost punched my computer screen.
– I love that guy throwing a bucketful of leaves about during the prepping of the Mirkwood set. This is what I said aloud to myself: ‘When I grow up I want to be that guy.’ Because I consider throwing leaves blithely about a sound stage on the North Island to be a far more meaningful and lucrative career than I’ll ever have at the rate I’m going.
– McKellan and Jackson interaction close to the end: <3
– Last bullet: SPECULATION AHOY!!
Okay, so if I’m understanding this correctly, the very last footage they shot was just of Gandalf, and he looks rather beat up. Why is that the final thing shot? If it was some piddling thing, it seems weird that it fell to the last. That makes me wonder, is it supposed to actually be the end of the second film? Is the second film going to close on Gandalf running off to ‘seek answers?’ That might not be bad, considering most people are familiar with LotR and it would be a decent anticipatory ending, though I’m wondering who the hell he’s supposed to be talking to there. Then again, he wouldn’t reasonably be beat up at that point, so my other thought is maybe he’s sussing out the Necromancer’s place while the White Council is convened?
