Huzzah for obscure Finno-Ugric languages and awesome grannies

Brilliant. And I learned about the Udmurt language today. I love Finno-Ugric languages, they're so distinctive and completely unrelated to Indo-European tongues. The music from that part of the world (Northeastern Europe/Western Russia) has interesting timbres and tempos, too.

PS - go 'like' this video. Evidently about 1/3 of youtube users who watched it are tasteless haters.

I love the Russian Grannies! Am watching Eurovision now - hoping that they win and get their STalinist-demolished church rebuilt!

Though there is a long and rich tradition of making sarcastic comments about Eurovision competitors - don't worry, ALL the other entries are getting the same!

I don't have a TV and only follow a few shows on the internet, so I was oblivious to the existence of the Grannies until this day. I also hope they win. =D

Alas, they were beaten by a rather derivative pop song from Sweden :-( They did pretty well though - much better than us though (UK) We came second to last. Mind you, we kind of expected that. We so do not take Eurovision seriously, but my goodness a lot of people watch it! :-D

I really hope they sell loads of CDs off the back of their second place, and get to rebuild their church! They sold me just on that. And their little slippers. :-D

Thank you for the update. It's too bad they didn't win first place, but from what I understand they won third place a couple years back or something...? So clearly they are climbing toward the top. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

And she's a bit of a Bjork wannabe, but still better than most of the ESF trash.

The Dutch entry was so. embarrassing. USA-country style music while wearing native american costumes. It was like an insensitivity contest, complete with otherwise bland song. @_@ I'm starting to think they pick something to embarrass the general population just for fun. Last year was worse though, if possible. It contained a barrel organ.
