Any Quenya gurus out there?

Probably to avoid doing other things, I've briefly taken up my recurring and futile quest to Quenya-ize the name Draugluin. As usual, a satisfactory result is not cropping up in my dictionary-combing. Rácoluin seems to be the nearest in meaning and phonemes, but I really don't like it.

If I were to fumble around (and I will), I'd be inclined to go for Raucoluinon (if you want to retain the "blue") or Raucolun (rauco/demon + lun/dark). At least that sounds more like Draugluin. But again, I'm a hack. I recommend asking Darth.

Date: 2012-02-17 06:38 pm (UTC)Thanks for your suggestion. The sound is indeed much closer to that of the Sindarin which is important, but I've been wanting to avoid darker meanings. I've been wanting to retain some of the 'wolf' meaning if possible.
Ooh, actually I hadn't seen Darth's name generator. *shiny new distraction!* I've yet to have occasion for having an OC with a large enough role to merit naming, otherwise I daresay I'd have found it earlier. Thus far most of my work focuses so much on dysfunction between minor canon characters that I haven't had need of my own OCs, though I can see that someday my (generally chronological) ramblings will reach a point where some will be necessary.

I love Darth's name generator and use it frequently, given that I have a plethora of OCs that appear in my hackery. It's a great resource for a lot of us.
The LC is newbie-friendly. You are welcome to register simply to pose that question, and then go from there if you wish. We have no hard and fast rules there about how much feedback to provide prior to asking for your own, and in fact, a newbie should feel comfortable about putting a draft up and asking for feedback straightaway. As one continues and comfort level increases, then it's a good idea to provide critique of others' work. You can specify what level of critique you wish, whether simple copyediting to full-blown plot and characterization dissection.
I sympathize with the social anxiety thing. Someone close to me had a tough time with this a while back (a mild case, not severe), but has come out on the other side.

For the most part I've got a handle on the SA and have even been known to put up a confident and genial front, but it resurges in mild ways betimes. Many years ago I didn't leave a house for months at one point, so relatively speaking it's no longer an issue!
