I love Darth's name generator and use it frequently, given that I have a plethora of OCs that appear in my hackery. It's a great resource for a lot of us.
The LC is newbie-friendly. You are welcome to register simply to pose that question, and then go from there if you wish. We have no hard and fast rules there about how much feedback to provide prior to asking for your own, and in fact, a newbie should feel comfortable about putting a draft up and asking for feedback straightaway. As one continues and comfort level increases, then it's a good idea to provide critique of others' work. You can specify what level of critique you wish, whether simple copyediting to full-blown plot and characterization dissection.
I sympathize with the social anxiety thing. Someone close to me had a tough time with this a while back (a mild case, not severe), but has come out on the other side.
