I can't really write total gloom or total fluff (since I do not like reading them, and hence can't judge the writing)
I frequently prefer the tragicomical (or the horrific-comical...horricomical...?...that sounds wrong). Life is rarely all one thing or the other, after all. Although I definitely go in for some total gloom and doom also, in certain moods.
