Bad ideas that want attention

I've become fond of the character Salmar, though we know next to nothing about this fellow. I keep looking at a compendium of obscure info somebody kindly put online, and I keep wanting to somehow incorporate the idea that Noldorin (a conceptual forerunner of Salmar) and Tulkas battled Melkor at one point. My conception of Salmar doesn't really seem conducive to this idea, at all, yet I still want to figure out some way to throw in a confrontation between Salmar and Melkor. I know it's a bad idea but I poke at it from time to time. "Maybe it's so bad it's good," a little voice says hopefully. NO.
