It's been so long since I've seen the movie that I've only the vaguest memories (I'm a big fan of the current TV series Hannibal, which is what prompted all this in the first place). But I can see where it would leave the ignorant and/or bigoted with a bad impression. The book doesn't handle the issues very gracefully either. *grumps*
